Safe Driving Saves Lives
Your good safe driving habits will ensure you are driving safely and that those riding with you are safe too! Be a positive role model in your car and community. Before you start driving make sure you buckle up and put your phone on do not disturb. If you are driving to a new location – get directions and/or allow Bluetooth to stream.
No one wants to get a ticket for distracted driving. And you certainly don’t want to cause a crash because you decided to read or send a text. When driving, follow these steps:
- Activate your phone’s “Do Not Disturb” feature until you arrive at your destination.
- No text message is worth the risk of a fine or a crash. If there is a need to send a message or take a call, pull over and park your car in a safe location.
- In addition, if you are riding with a friend or family member you can ask a passenger to be your “designated texter.” Allow them access to your phone to respond to important calls or messages.
- Do not engage in social media scrolling or messaging while driving.
You should never be embarrassed to do the right thing. It’s more embarrassing—and costly—to have a law enforcement officer stop you and give you a ticket for your dangerous behavior. It would be an absolute nightmare to be responsible for injuring or killing another driver or pedestrian.
